Update for May

Continuing through Bible Verse memorization list from before. Need to work on it more consistently.

Keith learned the Angelus and is now learning the Memorare. Still working on 10 Commandments, but have also added learning the answers to the Catechism questions. Now reading through New Testament.

Continuing on in OPG. Just finished lesson 60.

We are on lesson 34 in Right Start A. Need to really make math a priority during the summer.

For the summer we are not working formally on Science. We finished the Great Shark Escape.

We finished the course of reading about the continents set up on Mater Amabilis and will pick up Family and US history when we start 1st grade.

We recently finished Strawberry Girl. We will be getting the Milly-Molly-Mandy stories from the library shortly to start.

I got these suggestions from Letter of the Week curriculum.
Keith is learning the Angelus. We will also continue working on the 10 Commandments.

The boys learned Who has seen the wind? and we are staring on At the Seaside by RLS.
We are still reading "The Shoeshine Girl". We have also added Strawberry Girl by Lois Lenski as a Spring read
For science, we are reading through the chapter books of the Magic School Bus. Right now, we are reading "The Great Shark Escape". I also pick up some other books on the topic as well typically from the non-fiction section.

This will be a long update since I haven't been dong well.

Memorization

We have down Proverbs 6:23, Proverbs 8:11 and Proverbs 11:16. Working on Proverbs 14:26.

We finished "The Enchanted Castle" by E. Nesbit. The boys really enjoyed it. We are starting "The Shoeshine Girl" now.
For science, we are reading through the chapter books of the Magic School Bus. Right now, we are reading "The Giant Germ" which deals with microbes. I also pick up some other books on the topic as well typically from the non-fiction section. We made a compost bin in a bottle and are seeing how the dirt level goes down.
Geography/History this month is reading children's books on countries in Europe and People Around the World's Europe section.
Math is just working through Right Start Level A. We are on lesson 26 "Equations and Overlapping Ten's and One's".

We watched "The Face" which was a very good documentary about depictions of Jesus through the ages.

01 February 2010

Memorization

We have down Proverbs 6:23 pretty well. We started Proverbs 8:11 and I think they almost have it.

We are still working on the Apostle's Creed and the 10 Commandments.

We are still working on Long, Long Ago though I may stop soon and find a more appropriate one.

Read-Aloud

We finished the Pippi trilogy with "Pippi in the South Seas". The boys liked the adventures. We started tonight the book "The Enchanted Castle" by E. Nesbit. So far so good. So far it is similar to "The Secret Garden".

09 January 2010

Read-Aloud

For right now, Aidan and Keith are listening to the same read-aloud. I am not sure when I will read chapter books with Aidan alone. We are currently reading Pipi Longstocking Goes Aboard. Keith and I read the first book and Aidan joined us on the second. We either read a chapter at the end of our school time or at night after Nathan goes to bed.

Science

For science, we are reading through the chapter books of the Magic School Bus. Right now, we are reading about tornadoes. I also pick up some other books on the topic as well typically from the non-fiction section.
